Daily movement has been upped slightly over the past two weeks. The bikes are up from the basement and we had our first bike ride of the season over the weekend. The boys and I rode to the store and back. It is a very short trek -but it proved the bikes were in serviceable condition and are ready and waiting for more frequent, longer, and more intense rides.
I also got to accompany Lucas on his 6th grade field trip to the Detroit Institute of Arts and the Detroit Science Center. Lots of walking on our tour and running after the kiddo I was chaperoning that likes to wander off. It was lovely to see the DIA and the Diego Rivera installation, to spend the day with Luke, to get in some extra steps and feel good for doing so.
And the last three days marked my tenth year working with the Eric 'RicStar' Winter Music Therapy Camp. Running too and fro, jamming, wiggling, grooving and moving to the music. I love that camp...everything about it (almost - we have got to do our rehearsal and camp favorites different for the green and light blue group next year. The whole camp experience is great fodder for a blog entry over at Music Tattoo): the campers, the volunteers, the staff, the therapists, the music, the friendships...just everything! And of course it was nice to have the motivation to be on the move for much of the day. I know I didn't get enough hydration during the camp and I promise I will work on that next year. But after three days I find that I'm not too sore and what muscles are protesting slightly, I'm actually savoring as it means they got a bit of workout. This is a good thing.
I've also been eating almost vegetarian over the last few days (I did eat a portion of a turkey sub at camp yesterday). But I had a sweet potato burger with lots of veggies and a black bean burger (no bun for either burger) with mixed greens for dinner the past two nights, accompanied by a nice side of lime cilantro rice (I have to share this with Patrick sometime. He'll love it!). So many vitamins, minerals, fiber...so little processed crap...and so so so tasty.
So that's a little of what is going on. Moving forward.
